Trick or Treat... Smell my Feet!

"Trick or Treat... Smell my Feet!"
I wanted to make something special with my little guy for Halloween and I came across adorable candy corn footprints from Juggling with Kids (click one of the links to see them!)

I used regular washable kids craft paint for this project and tried a variety of different papers to see what worked the best.  In the end, I liked the way it looked on kraft paper the best (since I didn't have any black construction paper or cardstock).
Little Guy seemed a little confused at first as to what Mommy was doing to his foot but he warmed up to it quickly and laughed any time I added more paint.  (I literally made over 10 footprints, 5 ended up turning out well).  I love baby toes... so cute!
I decided to keep one of the footprints for his baby book and turn the other ones into Halloween cards for our family.  I used blank white cards that had a polka dot pattern on the front.  I just happened to have these, don't ask why, I don't typically make cards.  Here's how they turned out!

Book Talk Tuesday {October 21, 2014}

For my first "Book Talk Tuesday" I will be featuring "It's Pumpkin Day, Mouse!", by Laura Numeroff and Felecia Bond.  It has the beloved mouse and dog from the "If you give..." series.  In the book, Mouse is decorating his pumpkins for Halloween and each pumpkin features a different emotion.

The scary face is my Little Guy's favorite pumpkin.  He loves this page, "Eek!  What is that?"

This book offers a great opportunity for children to practice identifying feelings based on expression and would be perfect for a quick social-emotional read-a-loud

In my classroom, I used these adorable Pumpkin Feeling Cards from and had my kiddo's match the pumpkins expression to the picture of a person with the same expression.  I used picture cards from our Second Step kits, but you could find pictures in magazines or take pictures of the kids in you class making different expressions.  They loved this activity!

For more ideas on using pumpkins to explore feelings, check out the pumpkin flannel board activity from All Kids Network and the pumpkin face match from Teach Beside Me.

Five for Friday {October 17, 2014}

I'm joining Doodle Bugs Teaching for another Five for Friday link up!
{Brought to you by the letter Pp.... for pumpkins!}

 I'm so excited the weather cooperated and we were able to go to the pumpkin farm!

Little guy loved running around exploring the pumpkins and checking out the animals, he even fed a goat!  Brave boy!

"Pumpkins" were also the theme of this weeks "Thematic Thursday" from Comprehension Connection!

Best Books:  "Spookley the Square Pumpkin", "It's Pumpkin Day, Mouse" and "The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything", I know it's not a true pumpkin theme book, but it is amazing and I had to include it as one of my Best Books!

Activities: Painting pumpkins, Pumpkin Patch Dramatic Play, and Pumpkin Exploration (math & science)
To learn more about these activities, check out my throwback post, Happy Pumpkin Day!

My Pumpkin Theme MEGA Literacy & Math Pack is marked down in my TPT store until tomorrow morning!  Perfect for centers and small groups!

While you're visiting my TPT store, don't forget to download my Pumpkin Patch Dramatic Play FREEBIE!  You can see pictures of it in use by clicking the link "Happy Pumpkin Day" above!

I made this quick sensory activity for Little Guy one rainy afternoon.  I drew a pumpkin on a ziplock baggie, and added a white piece of cardstock and orange paint to the bag.  I zipped it closed,  used packing tape to seal it shut, and let the little guy have at it!
(** It would probably be better to draw your design on the paper inside the bag, the permanent marker did rub off of the baggie a little!)
