Daddy Day!

Last week, we celebrated "Dad's Take Your Child To School" Day!

Our class had an AMAZING turn out of dads, grandpa's, and mom's who stayed to help create a hand print project with their child.

Before the parents and children came into our class, I laid out several sheets of coordinating scrapbook paper (no two were alike!).  When the parents/children entered our class, we instructed each adult to trace their hand on one piece of paper and then to trace the child's hand on a different sheet of paper.

After the parents left, we cut out each hand print and assembled them, as shown below!

We also added a picture of each child and their parent/grandparent to the project.  They are currently displayed in the hallway outside of our classroom.  The children and parents LOVE looking at themselves and the art work they helped to create! :)

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom

We celebrated "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" Day at school this week!

We spent the week reading "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" (as well as "Chicka Chicka 1, 2, 3" and "Boom Chicka Rock") and practiced identifying all of the letters that climb the coconut tree.  During small groups, the students decorated the first letter of their name, which we turned into necklaces for them to wear on "Chicka Chicka" Day.

We also made the cute hats that I saw on Pinterest from Mrs. Lee's Kindergarten.  She has TONS of cute activities to go with "Chicka Chicka", so cute!  Here is our try at the hats...
(Not bad for one of our first attempts at cutting this year!)

And look at the cute coconut tree displays some of the other classes made...
The first is done by Ms Kristin & Ms. Sue ~ They had their students decorate the first letter in their name and added them to their tree!

Ms. Sarah, Ms. Chrissy, and Ms. Tania made the next display ~ They took pictures of their students wearing their hats and holding up a letter card of the first letter in their name and added those to their tree.

So much fun! :)

National Play-Doh Day!

Happy "National Play-Doh" Day!!

Our Play-Doh center is easily one of my kiddo's favorite centers this year!   So in honor of "National Play-Doh Day", I wanted to share with you our new Play-Doh mats!

I printed my students names in outline format on card stock with a patterned back.  The kids then colored in their names any way that they wanted to during small groups.  After they were finished, I laminated them for the students to use at our Play-Doh center and during small groups.  I'll probably punch a hole into the corner of each mat and clip them all to a binder ring, just for easier storage when they're not using them.

Pictures of the mats in action coming soon! :)

Center Sign In

During this second week of school, I introduced our Center Sign In chart to my kiddos.

I made the chart by combining 2 old calendars together.. mine are kind of boring but that's what I had laying around.  You can probably find much cuter ones!

I then added cute polka dot letters to the top and pictures of each center down the sides.
I made the letters and stars by printing them onto patterned card stock.

I added Velcro to each box and made matching polka dot cards with the students names and pictures to use when they sign into the centers.

My job chart is very similar to this as well but I forgot to take pictures :(  I'll add them later!

Mo Williams & Eric Carle

Last week when I was shopping at Target, I found this little Pigeon toy in the dollar section.  I was so excited because it reminded me of the pigeon from the Mo Williams series "Don't Let the Pigeon..." and I thought it would be a cute prop during our Author study.

My cat, Gizmo, had other ideas for the pigeon though.  It is now his new best friend.  So, I began the hunt to find another pigeon.  I went to 2 different Targets (including the one where I found the 1st one) and NOTHING!  I began getting very disappointed (over a pigeon, I know!) until I found....

The cutest Eric Carle, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" gear!  There were little tote bags, buckets, and stuffed caterpillar toys (I bought 2 this time just in case Gizmo gets any ideas!).  I contemplated buying ALL of the bags but talked myself out of it.  Now I kind of want to buy a whole set for my class end of the year gifts... hhhhm :)

So cute, right?!

Magnetic Pompoms

Well I finally got around to making the cute magnetic pompoms that you can find all over pinterest... I actually bought all of the supplies last school year to make them!

I used small adhesive magnets from Michaels and pompoms from Dollar Tree.

Believe it or not, that is 75 pompoms in that little container...

Here are our pompoms in action!
I printed and laminated the magnet pages from http://makinglearningfun.com.
There are magnetic pages for "The Kissing Hand", "Llama Llama", "If You Take a Mouse to School", "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" and TONS more!!

These activities are great to help develop fine motor skills and one-to-one correspondence!

If you haven't checked out this site, you NEED too! :)

Pink Glitter & Polka Dots

Happy Friday!

Here's a glimpse at my super cute bulletin board that I use for parent information...

I used pink glitter wrapping paper from Michaels, black & white polka dot border and scrapbook paper to make my flyers & newsletter stand out.  Now all I need to add are some zebra print letters to spell out "Welcome!"

Welcome to Pre-K!

Thank you for visiting the first blog post of my new blog AND of the new school year!

I thought I would start things off by showing off my classroom - It's a work in progress but so far I love how it's turning out!

First off, my Meeting/Calendar Area
I was inspired this year by "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" and used a preppy Pink & Green Polka Dot theme throughout my room

A close up of left side of my board with our class schedule in the purple pocket chart, rules of the classroom, Job Helper Chart (made from an old calendar and a lot of velcro!), colors, shapes, and a place to display our letter of the week, Oh and a "Chicka Chicka" tree of course!

The next area is to the right of my dry erase board.  It's basically my calendar and weather station.  I made the paper to hold all of our calendar numbers to avoid having to constantly dig around daily for each number.  I glued 2 pieces of green polka dot scrapbook paper together, laminated it, and added velcro (I use A LOT of velcro!)

My Word Wall is located in our library center.  I used the cutest "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" border and decals (found at Target) to embellish the board (We can't use paper - fire code).  I also added pink, green, and blue "poms" in the corner for added interest.

And finally... our birthday board!  I used scrapbook paper to create the pattern and divide the months.  Next I'll add each child's name, picture, and birth date!

Well, I hoped you enjoyed taking a sneak peak into my classroom!
Wait until you see the bulletin board outside of my class! :)
