Fall Fun!

Today we incorporated a little fall fun into our lessons!
We took a walk outside and found a great little area with tons of leaves!  My little kiddo's LOVED running in the leaves.  We took the cutest picture, I wish I could post it!
I was planning on incorporating the leaves into a graph like the one I saw on Pinterest.  Unfortunately, all of the leaves were yellow!  So, I improvised and used foam leaves.  Each student pulled a leaf out of our mystery box (NO PEEKING!) and used thier classifying skills to sort the leaves.  We then used 1 - 1 correspondence to count each column of leaves.
Our next theme focuses on the weather and the 4 seasons so this was a perfect way to wrap up our study of the 5 senses and ease into seasons!

To incorporate a review on colors into our "5 Senses" theme, I had the students close their eyes and choose a counting cube out of our feeling box.  They then had to name the color, find something in the classroom that was the same color, and complete the sentence frame, "I spy a ___ ____."
We also graphed "Our Favorite Colors"!  Each student selected a foam piece in their favorite color and glued it onto our chart (We so need to practice "Dot, dot, not a lot" ~ They LOVE glue!).  After our chart dried, we analyzed the results (big words for counting and comparing!) and used terms such as more, fewer, and equal.
I'm actually surprised that more of my girlie girls didn't pick the color pink! ;-)

In honor of Thanksgiving, here's a little Turkey fun for you!
We turned our play-doh brown by mixing black and orange play-doh together (I can't believe the black play-doh was still soft, I made it the week before Halloween!)  Next, we added some yummy smelling "cinnamon" scented oil to make it a little special.
I set out feathers and googly eyes and let my little friends go to town!
Check out the cute Turkeys!
Hope everyone has a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Chinese Buffet!

Pre-K Pages has the most adorable "Chinese Buffet" printables available!  You can check out her dramatic play area here!
I was inspired to create our own "Chinese Buffet" using all of her printables and had plans to change it out into a pizzeria sometime in the middle of our "5 Senses" theme.  However, my little friends have been enjoying our "Chinese Buffet" so much, that I haven't gotten a chance to turn it into a pizzeria!
Here are the pictures of our "Chinese Buffet" in our Dramatic Play center.

We have BIG plans for our Dramatic Play center in December to go along with our "Weather/4 Season" Theme!  Stay Tuned!

Our 5 Senses!

Fall is the perfect season to study the 5 senses!
To begin our study, we made a "5 Senses" graphic organizer where the student's brainstormed different things we can see, hear, touch, taste, and smell!
One of my favorite responses was We Can Hear... "Ms. Jennifer"!  LOL!
To incorporate the sense of smell into our classroom, I used Cinnamon Swirl essence oil from Michael's.  I have to admit, I may have went a little cinnamon crazy.  I added it into our paint AND  orange play-doh!
This is one delicious smelling painting!

My next mission is to find peppermint oil for Christmas, I mean winter!
We turned our dramatic play center into a "Chinese Buffet" using the printables from Pre-K Pages
and next week we're going to be turning it into a Pre-K Pizzeria also from Pre-K Pages!
Pictures coming soon!

More Monsters!

Finally getting around to sharing my last few Monster activities from "Monster Monday!"
We read the book, "Jeremy Draws a Monster" and drew our own purple monsters.  The children then completed the sentence frame "_____ draws a monster!" by writing their name on the line.  Sorry I don't have a picture!
We also tried making these cute drippy monsters that I saw on Pinterest from  I let the kiddo's blow the paint globs with a straw to make their monsters, they LOVED it!
Here are some of the finished products!
Check out the "Big, Green Monster" headbands Ms. Ashleigh made with her class!  I might have to copy them for next year!
So that's it for our Monster fun, Enjoy! :)

Fall Collages

Check out the cute fall collages that my classroom neighbor, Ms. Ashleigh, made with her class!
She used contact paper, leaves, and colored squares (not sure if they are tissue paper or construction paper, but either would probably work!).

ABC Book

In an earlier post I mentioned that we started our "Letter of the Week" studies!
Each week, we focus on one letter and that letter's sound.
During small groups, the children complete an art activity that corresponds with that letter and we comply their artwork all year into an ABC Book.
So, far we made spiders for the letter Ss and pumpkins for Pp.
This week we will be learning about the letter Tt and making hand print turkeys.
I'm excited to see how they turn out!
